Ronald McDonald House Ottawa was founded in 1983 and granted a charitable license in 1983. The House opened its doors to sick children and their families in June of 1984 and is part of a network of 16 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada. Our House is owned and governed by Ronald McDonald House Ottawa Inc., a charitable organization. Its Board of Directors consists of 15 volunteer members from business, medical and the surrounding community.
The House is managed by dedicated professional staff that, while small in number, is large in heart. We are blessed by the support of a full complement of hardworking, dedicated volunteers. The Ottawa House is located next to the CHEO, an internationally recognized hospital.
We are dedicated to providing a warm, safe, affordable and compassionate environment for families with children in hospital.
Surrounding families with the care, support and resources they need to be at the heart of their child’s care.
Ronald McDonald House operates an essential mission, enabling access to Canada’s paedatric healthcare system.
“It’s truly the best place you don’t want to have to be” – BJ Babin, a dad who stayed with us in 2025 during his son’s cancer battle.
Many people have heard of Ronald McDonald House, but don’t quite know what it means until you walk through the doors. Being here means the support of a community who knows what it feels like to be going through a very difficult time while far from family.
You will find warmth, a place to feel okay, to catch your breath, to find home-cooked volunteer-made meals at the end of long days, and to watch your child feel at home, away from home.
In 2026, we completed our expansion from 14 to 36 suites. Our new House offers families more places to rest and spend time together. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our incredible community.
