Our House is more than just a place to sleep

Our House is a haven of calm and support for families during difficult times.

Find out what you need to know about staying at Ronald McDonald House Ottawa.

Family eligibility
  • Live a minimum of 60 km away from the House.
  • Have a child 18 years of age or younger who is being treated for a life-threatening or serious illness at CHEO or another local hospital.
  • Have a social worker at the hospital who can fill out your form to request a stay.
  • Parents under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian for the entire duration of their stay.
  • All children under the age of 18 must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
  • We can offer only one bedroom per family.
  • Anyone suffering from or having been exposed to a communicable illness cannot be cleared to stay at the House.
  • Visitors are more than welcome, but must sign in at the front office.
  • While the House is committed to the safety and health of its families, visitors and associates, we cannot guarantee that our families will not be exposed to any communicable diseases.
  • Families are welcomed by our staff and our volunteers.
  • Payments are collected at the end of each stay or at the end of each month.
  • You will be asked to sign an agreement form before you are given the keys and access to the rest of the House.
  • Each guest room comes fully equipped with a private washroom, Wi-Fi, Smart TV, fresh linens, and toiletries.
  • Telephones are answered between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., and we have security available from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. in case of emergency.
  • Families, Social Workers, Doctors, etc are able to fill out a Room Request by following this link.
  • After submitting a request, your family will automatically be added to our waitlist. As soon as a room becomes available, you will be contacted. We ask for a $10 contribution per night, per family.

If our House is full at the time that you would like to stay with us, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted if a room becomes available.
